Career Advice - Understand Your Boss to Advance Your Career
A clear understanding of your boss is essential to career success. This means identifying his strong and weak points, as well as biases and blind spots.
Wise careerists do not leave such an understanding to chance. Instead they conduct an organized analysis and plan of action based on such questions as these:
o What's the boss's background? How did he get to be boss? Earned his way up through the ranks? Nepotism? Qualifications for the position?
o What are the biggest challenges the boss is dealing with? Major goals? Pressures on him?
o Who are his allies and enemies in the organization? Does he reach out to build alliances with others in the organization? Does he zealously guard his turf?
o Is he comfortable and confident in your presence? Does he see you as a threat?
o Does he acknowledge your accomplishments? Does he share credits? How does he react when you receive recognition from others?
o What irritates and angers him? What are his hot buttons?
o Does he delegate responsibilities and authority? Once he gives make an assignment does he back off and let you do the job or is a controller?
o Does he share or conceal information vital to your responsibilities? Does he trust you?
o Does he help you to learn and advance toward your career goals?
o What's the boss's style for providing directions? Makes suggestions? Sells the idea? Dictates? He is vague or specific?
o How does he react when you question his decisions?
o How does he handle stress?
o Does he have major personnel problems? Does he try to get you involved?
o What about his idiosyncrasies? What does he do that irritates you? Pleases you? Disappoints you?
o How does your boss react to bad news? Denies it or tries to correct the problem?
o Does he provide you with regular feedbacks on your performance? Conduct annual compensation reviews?
Does he suggest changes in your performance and style?
o Do you feel free making suggestions for improving your performance and that of the organization as a whole?
o Are you comfortable in discussing your job satisfaction and your ambitions for your career path? How does he react when you seek more responsibility?
o Do you believe he provides an even, well-considered approach to his role as boss? What are his biases and blind spots?
You'll be ahead of the competitors when you use the answers to these and like question to prepare a written profile of your boss, and lay out a plan for utilizing this information to enhance your career path. Do not share your analysis and plan with others.

Career Advice - 5 Ways to Research Your Dream Job Besides the Internet
Whether you've already got a dream Job or your own home-based dream business in mind, or you're just trying to figure out what kinds of jobs you can do that incorporate your passion, it's vital to get out in your community to research it. Here are five things you can do.
One - The Yellow Pages
Despite the advent of the internet for advertising and information, the Yellow Pages are still an absolute must for many local businesses. Those ads aren't cheap, and you'll notice some businesses buy them year after year. I've had small business owners tell me NOT buying the ad one year cut their walk-in business in half. That said, the yellow pages can be a great resource. Most of them have a cross-reference index, so if you are interested in counseling, you can look at the index to see the various sections a "counselor" might be listed. Want to work with animals? Check out the cross-reference by type of animals - there's a lot beyond grooming and vets. The purpose is two-fold. You'll find out what businesses already exist in your town. And, you might get ideas for your area of interest by looking at other areas.
Two - The Magazine Rack at a Big Book Store
Have you ever really examined the magazine racks at one of the big box bookstores? It's amazing how many different specialty magazines exist. With advertising in tough times right now, many of the weaker ones are folding. So, if a magazine is still being published, they've got enough advertisers to keep it open. See what kind of magazines might exist in your area of interest. If the magazine rack is just too big and overwhelming, you can review the Writer's Market publications, which list most titles and their content.
Three - Local Clubs and Associations
It varies by community, but the Library or the Chamber of Commerce usually maintain a list of active clubs, organizations, and associations with contact people, focus, etc. Look over the list and see if there is a group in any way related to your passion or area of interest. Consider joining, or contact the organizer to learn more about it.
Four - Community College Non-Credit Continuing Education
If you have a local college, see if they offfer non-credit continuing education courses. These are classes for anything from digital photography, to italian cooking, to yoga. They usually meet for one long day, or several times over a few weeks and are strictly for people to learn about something that interests them. See if there are any classes about your area. If not, why not approach the school about teaching one next semester?
Five - Never Miss a Bulletin Board
As you are going about your day, make it a point to notice bulletin boards. They're everywhere! Coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, community centers, libraries, club houses, and even gyms. These days many businesses have a bulletin board where customers or members can post business cards, flyers, or other requests. Check out your local ones and see what's happening.
The point of all of these is to get you out in your local community talking about your interest and finding out if there are other people interested in it, doing it, or seeking it. The more you know, the more prepared you'll be.

Job Interviews - How to Answer the "Why Do You Want To Leave Your Current Job?" Question
It is common for hiring managers to ask why you want to leave your current job. How you answer that question can have a big impact on your chances of getting the new position. So don't blow it!When answering the "Why do you want to leave your current job?" question, my advice is to be honest (to a point), positive and upbeat.
There are many reasons to leave a job. Most people are looking for career advancement opportunities or new challenges. Sometimes companies get into financial difficulty and have to reduce their work force. Where I live, many people would leave their current job simply to have one with a shorter commute!
Those are pretty straightforward reasons that anyone would understand.
Then there are people who want to leave because they do not like their job or their boss. But NEVER say anything negative about the company or people you are working for. If you do, the interviewer may think of you as a complainer who has a problem with authority or cannot get along with others.
So, even if the reason you want to leave is that you hate your job or do not get along with your boss, give a different reason for wanting to leave. You do not have to lie; just be discreetly selective with your answer.
Sample answers:
"I've worked with ABC Company for five years, and during that time I've achieved all of the goals I set for myself. I enjoy my job, but my advancement opportunities there are limited. I'm looking for new challenges with a larger organization, like yours. With my experience in (whatever), I'm sure I could contribute to your company's mission (be as specific as possible here) and continued success."
OR...
"To be honest, I don't want to leave. I've enjoyed my work at XYZ Company and have had great success there. But the company is going through a tough time and is downsizing its staff, so it's time for me to move on. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I've admired your company for years and am excited to have this opportunity to interview with you. I feel my experience at XYZ Company will enable me to help you with...(whatever)."
OR...
"I like my current job, but I'm interested in changing career paths. I'd like to broaden my horizons and find new ways to contribute to an organization's goals. This position with your company would allow me to do that by...(whatever)."
Try to include specific information relevant to the company you're interviewing with. For example, if you know the company participates in community environmental events, mention that ("I'm also eager to work for a company that helps the environment.").
KEY: The more you use specific information that shows you are knowledgeable about the job and the company for which you're applying, the sweeter your answer will sound to the interviewer!

How to Make Your Husband Fall Back in Love With You Again - Advice For Wives
How to make your husband fall back in love with you again is something many women start to wonder about during the course of their marriage. Couples change and what was once a sizzling hot romance may shift into more of a platonic friendship. It's frustrating when you begin to feel that your husband isn't as crazy about you as he once was. Many women simply buy into the idea that once their husband falls out of love there's nothing they can do but agree to a divorce. If you still love your spouse there are many ways you can reignite the romance and make him fall in love with you all over again.
When you are thinking about how to make your husband fall back in love consider the qualities he admired about you early in your relationship. There's no denying that both partners change as the marriage progresses and those changes can and do impact feelings. If you were very goal oriented when you two first met and now you are finding it difficult to discover a career or life direction that is something you should work on. It's also easy to fall into the trap of being extra critical with your spouse. If you were easy going and accepting early in the relationship you need to rediscover that quality within yourself now.
It's also human nature to want to understand why your husband doesn't feel as close emotionally as he once did. Many women barrage their husbands with questions about his shift in feelings and instead of this helping the situation, it only creates more tension. Most men aren't comfortable talking about what they are feeling and they retreat when they feel pushed about it. If you've already brought up the subject with your spouse, don't push it. Instead get busy doing your own thing. Focusing on yourself more can actually be one of the ways to make your husband fall back in love with you. All men want to be with women who place a high value on themselves. Your husband will find you much more interesting and appealing if you have a life that is full and rewarding. Instead of doting on why he doesn't seem to love you now as much as he once did, show him that you know you're worth loving. It will naturally draw him closer to you.
Specific things you do and say can compel your husband to appreciate and love you more. Saying or doing the wrong thing can actually cause him to feel even more distant from you. You can make your husband fall even deeper in love with you than when you two first married.
You don't have to worry about whether your husband is on the brink of asking you for a divorce. You can control the situation and use specific techniques to naturally make him fall hopelessly in love with you.
